We aim to collect only what is needed to run the platform.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Account information

• Email
• Username
• Date of birth (for age verification only, kept private)
• Basic location (provided by you or inferred approximately through analytics)

1.2 Content

We store the text you write on Storybun:

• Stories and chapters
• Private stories
• (In the future) drafts

You cannot upload external files; content is text only.

1.3 Analytics and usage data

We use Aptabase to collect privacy-respecting analytics:

• Feature usage
• Pages visited
• Device/browser information
• Approximate region

Analytics help us improve Storybun.

1.4 Logs & technical data

We collect:

• IP addresses
• Request logs
• Error logs

We store internal debugging assets (e.g., sourcemaps) in Cloudflare R2.
These do not contain story content.

2. How we use your data

We use your data to:

• Provide and operate Storybun
• Display and store your Content
• Enable collaboration
• Maintain security and prevent abuse
• Diagnose errors and improve the platform
• Send transactional emails

We do not sell your data or use it for targeted advertising.

3. Private stories

Private stories are not publicly visible.

Storybun administrators can technically access private stories but do so only when necessary for:

• Moderation
• Debugging
• Security
• Legal compliance

We treat private stories as sensitive and confidential.

4. Donations and future subscriptions

If you donate via services like Buy Me a Coffee:

• Payment is processed by the third-party provider
• Storybun never receives your card information

Future subscription features will include updated privacy details.

5. Third-party processors

We rely on:

• Neon for database hosting
• Aptabase for analytics
• Cloudflare R2 for internal assets
• Email providers for transactional messages

These services process data on our behalf.

6. Cookies and local storage

Used for:

• Authentication
• Security
• Essential preferences

If disabled, Storybun may not function properly.

7. Children and age limits

Storybun is for users 13+.

Future guardian-managed accounts may be added; this Policy will then be updated.

8. Data retention and deletion

We keep data as long as needed for:

• Operating Storybun
• Security
• Legal compliance

Self-service deletion is coming. Until then, you can request manual deletion.

9. Your rights

Depending on your region, you may have rights to:

• Access your data
• Correct inaccuracies
• Request deletion
• Restrict processing

We will respond in accordance with applicable law.

10. Security

We use modern hosting and encryption practices but cannot guarantee absolute security.
